Desert Animal Tales for Early Learners

Interactive storytelling that is meant to educate, and inspire imagination and conversation.

Welcome!

Preschool and kindergarten teachers know that language development is crucial for 3–5-year-olds. Those early learners who develop a larger vocabulary will often show more self-confidence and independence by being able to identify and express their thoughts and feelings. This, in turn, helps to promote better behavior when encountering inevitable disappointments, defeats, and conflicts.

Personally, and professionally, I have often witnessed the frustration and meltdown caused by a child’s inability to communicate their wants or needs. After the isolation caused by Covid, teachers (and parents) frequently identified this as a problem. As an educator, retired preschool director, and curriculum developer, I wanted to find better ways to boost verbal fluency. Why not participatory storytelling using scenarios familiar to this young age – waiting for a big day, beginning school, or hesitancy in making new friends?

Responding to questions in a story gives children permission to share their ideas and experiences. Interactive conversations also help them to gain more self-confidence, and increase their prediction and problem-solving skills.

Join us to see what happens to Robbie Roadrunner and his friends at Desert Day School. How will they solve their problems, and what lessons will they learn along the way? We’d love to hear your thoughts and even some suggestions for future adventures.
